Inspiring Holiday

July 23, 2016

We just returned from a fantastic holiday to Musina and the Kruger Park.  As I am working on an exhibition on trees, I found a lot of inspiration.  We camped at Klein Bolayi, just outside Musina.  At this farm there are about 200 huge Baobab trees – more than I ever saw together. I enjoyed painting them on the spot and am planning to make a few more paintings of them in my studio.

A very small baobab.  Apparently a freak of nature, as this tree is thought to be also more than 800 years old as are  the other trees on the farm.

River forest at the Pafuri region in the Kruger Park.  The children were not always amused by their mother who wanted to stop for every beautiful tree while they were hoping to see a lion or a leopard after the next turn in the road.

  1. Sounds like a working holiday to me! Glad to see you have “come alive” on your blog.
Talking about inspiration. Elsje Buchner (a minster at our church) sent me an email containing these words: Ek het hierdie stuk al soeveel keer gelees en na die gebeure in België en Frankryk en die VSA dink ek daar kan ’n paar plekname bykom. Dankie hiervoor – dit is regtig kosbaar! elsje @larochelle.co.za

It is in response to my blog Thermopylae, in which I also quoted from your essay on it (she played the song in a sermon which eventually led to my post). Jy het dus deel aan die kosbaarheid.

    • Hi Abrie, baie dankie vir jou opmerkings. Ek is bly jy kom my artikel oor Hot Gates gebruik.
Ek besef ek skilder baie Jakaranda’s. Dit is ook maar bietjie vir brood en botter. Op die oomblik probeer ek werk aan ‘n uitstalling oor allerande bome.
      Groete
      Jenny

      • Nee Jenny ek het nie gesien nie maar sal gaan kyk. My opmerkings oor die Jakarandas was bloot “in jest”. Stekte met die brood en botter en geniet jou kuns.
