Poetry about our indigenous trees

August 10, 2017

For my solo exhibition I looked for poems to go with my paintings of South – African trees.  Especially in Afrikaans poetry are a lot to be find.  Poems are used as metaphor for many aspects of life.  I like to pair them with my paintings, creating a dialogue between text and image.

Witgatboom

Dié witgat met geknotte spiere

verman hom teen die bergwoestyn.

maar mettertyd – sy wal kalf in –

sal hy, oudstryder, ook verdwyn.
